The Design Warrior's Guide to FPGAs

Devices, Tools and Flows

by Clive "Max" Maxfield

An excellent introduction to FPGAs, as well as the tools & design flows.

Since I have been away from logic design for several years, writing software, this book was very useful for getting up to speed with modern technology. Things have changed a bit since the days of wire wrapping 74LS chips.

Of particular interest to me was the coverage of VHDL, Verilog, System C, & C/C++ design flows. To actually learn and use these languages, you need to read other books. In addition to logic design flows, DSP & Embedded Processor design flows are covered extensively.

A must read book if you are just starting out using FPGAs, and need to get up to speed with the current state of the industry. Not very useful for learning how to use particular tools or how to design circuits for FPGAs.
